Lisbon's Genealogy Connection
This site was developed to provide information
for citizens doing research in Lisbon, Maine.
Researching your genealogy is a wonderful
way to explore your family's history. Today
it is easier than ever before. Municipal
clerks receive numerous requests each week
for information. Requests are received in
person, in the mail, over the phone, and
now by email. Municipalities have different
polices regarding genealogy research and
some charge fees by the hour, or per search.
Fees are required at the time of search.
We charge $5.00 for every 5 years searched
and if the document is located you will receive
an uncertified copy. However, if you need
a certified copy, then it is $10.00 for every
five years searched. Additional copies requested
and made at the same time are $5.00 each.
We do not accept out of state checks, so
please send us a money order or bank check
in that case. Also, because we need our money
first, we do not accept requests by phone
or e-mail. We also cannot accept out-of-state
checks.
| HELPFUL HINTS |
1) Prior to 1892, towns were not required
to file birth, marriage or death records.
We have records prior to 1892, but they are
not complete.
2) Be sure to check family bibles, city directories,
obituaries, old maps, old photographs, town
history books and old newspapers for information.
3) The State Archivist keeps a list of professional
genealogists who will provide research for
a fee.
4) If you are unsure where the event took
place - begin by contacting the State Vital
Statistic Office which holds records from
1923 and forward or the State Archives which
holds records from 1922 and back. They maintain
copies of records from every town in Maine.
