Dog Licenses

Title 7 Section 3922 (1) under "Issuance of license", says all dogs 6 months or more need to be licensed on or before January 1st, and then under 3922(2) it says the owner or keeper, within 10 days, shall obtain a license if between January 1 and October 15th.

There are two (2) different late fees cited in the law as follows:

  1. A $25 late fee is assessed if you have not registered your dog by the first Tuesday in February, at which time the Selectmen sign a municipal dog warrant demanding all unlicensed dogs be registered.
  2. A $15 late fee is assessed under Title 7 Section 3923-A(4) which says dogs licensed after January 31st each year shall pay to the municipalclerk a late fee of $15, which applies until the dog warrant goes into effect.

There is more information, just drop by and see our 2004 Dog Licensing Municipal Posting on our bulletin board.

In order to obtain a license for your dog, you need to obtain a Maine Rabies Certificate from your veterinarian to prove your dog has a valid rabies shot.

You must also show proof of spay/neutering - either a certificate number or a letter from a vet stating that the animal was examined and found to be altered.

$6.00 per year Spayed/Neutered and $10.00 per year Not Spayed /Neutered.

Note: Although cats do not require a license, they must be vaccinated against rabies.
