Internet Acceptable Use Policy

Please read this document carefully before signing the agreement slip, because it becomes a legally binding contract.

Lisbon Library Department’s technology equipment and Internet connection enables the Library to provide access to information beyond its own collection, and thus enhance the breadth and depth of information resources available to library users.

Providing access to the Internet is consistent with the Library’s mission to “select, organize and preserve a book and materials collection which is freely available to all residents of the Town of Lisbon.”

Patrons must present their personal library cards to the librarian at the circulation desk in order to obtain a code for access to the computer. Library employees are authorized to terminate any user’s access to the Internet, or prohibit a user from subsequent access sessions if that patron has violated any of the terms of this Internet Acceptable Use Policy and or Library Rules.

Disclaimer:

The Library does not monitor and has no control over the information available through the Internet, and specifically disclaims any warranty as to the information’s accuracy, timeliness, usefulness or fitness for a particular purpose.

The Library assumes no responsibility for and shall have no liability for any direct, indirect or consequential damages arising from the use of its technology equipment, electronic resources, or connections to other Internet resources.

For details and specifics, please request a copy of the Internet Acceptable Use Policy.

Internet Policy Change

Attention: Internet and Computer Patrons

The Library Governing Board discussed and unanimously approved the following policy change effective immediately:

  • The sole responsibility of Library staff members is to ensure that the computers are working properly and that the Internet is available.
  • Library staff will not be able to assist with any of your personal computer needs.

There are two important reasons for this change:

  • It is vitally important for all Library patrons to be assured of their privacy when using the Internet. Whether you are completing a job application, reading your email or using your Facebook account, your Internet use is private and confidential.
  • Because of changing technology, Library staff may not be able to provide reliable and accurate information about email, Internet sites and software programs.
